Back to School if you're Ready
Tuesday 21st February
Kia ora e te whānau
He mihi nui tēnei ki a koutou i roto i te āhuatanga o te wā. Koutou kua pā i te pouri, i te kino o te waipuke, nei mātou e tuku aroha ana ki a koutou.
We want to acknowledge the challenging times we have all faced in the past week. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have experienced loss. We know some of our community are staying with friends and whānau, some are still without power and some are isolated because of road damage.
We are grateful to say that our whānau who live in flooded areas have been contacted and are safe.
We have met with Napier principals, Kāhui Ako school leaders and our own staff to make plans for the rest of the week. For those who are ready to return to school we will be open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 9-2.30pm. However, we will only be offering activities from 12-2pm on Wednesday and 10am-2pm on Thursday and Friday.
Wednesday will focus on reconnecting and sharing kai – whānau are welcome to join us. Thursday and Friday we will provide lunch as per usual.
We are not expecting this week to be ‘normal’. We are not concerned about what students wear or attendance. This is simply a chance to reconnect with peers and kaiako. We will provide learning activities (and a Hauora NCEA Standard for seniors), for ākonga wanting this. We will have kaiako organising activities, like sports, art, music, watching Matatini, cooking etc for students who would prefer to do that.
There will be a Counsellor onsite for students needing someone to talk to and our staff are always willing to listen, give hugs and love. Reconnection and wellbeing are our number one priority this week.
Our office is open and staffed by our warm and caring team so if you have any questions, or need help with anything, please make contact. We are here to support students and whānau.
Mā te Atua koutou e manaaki
